Long Island Expwy, Syosset, 11.5.2009

Before 5 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009, a large tractor trailer  said to be carrying vegetables was traveling east on the Long Island Expressway near South Oyster Bay Road, Syosset.  It seems that a car cut him off.  He braked,  the trailer flipped and burned for hours.  The driver of the truck was hospitalized, but, sad to report, he died on November 10.

Sunrise Hwy,Seaford 11.1.2009

Tragically, a minor accident led to death on Sunrise Highway, Seaford, during the first hour of November 1, 2009.  According to newsday.com here, a westbound driver rear-ended another car west of Washington Avenue.  Both stopped.  One driver crossed to the median of Sunrise Highway on foot.  Crossing back to the cars, he was killed by another westbound car.

Piping Rock Rd, Old Brookville, 10.29.2009

Sad to relate, but during the first hour of Thursday, October 29, 2009, a motorist southbound on Piping Rock Road in Old Brookville lost control of his car and, in hitting a tree, also lost his life.  A newsday.com story here is available to subscribers.

East Broadway, Long Beach, 10.18.2009

In the early morning of Saturday, October 17, 2009, near the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and East Broadway, Long Beach, a car struck and killed a pedestrian.  The driver fled, but was later found and arrested.  See the newsday.com story here.

Jersusalem Ave., Uniondale, 9.20.2009

About 1 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009, a driver lost his life at the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and Jerusalem Avenue, Uniondale.  He was southbound on Hawthorne, when an allegedly inebriated driver was moving west on Jerusalem.  An account appeared here in the Long Island Press.

Eisenhower Park, 9.16.2009

Newsday reports that a body was found on the roadway that crosses through the park from Hempstead Turnpike to Merrick Avenue.  The discovery was made about 9:15 by a northbound motorist.  It may be a hit-and-run.   The newsday.com story is here.

Jericho Tpk, Jericho, 8.28.2009

1010wins.com reports here that a motorcyclist lost his life when he crashed into a fence along Jericho Turnpike, Jericho, early on August 28, 2009.

Hempstead Tpk., East Meadow, 8.23.2009

Tragically, two brothers were killed about 4 a.m. Sunday, August 23, 2009, as they crossed Hempstead Turnpike near Conti Square Blvd., East Meadow.  A westbound driver (according to police, drunk) killed both brothers.  The newsday.com story is here.

Southern State Pkwy, Exit 15, 8.18.2009

An eastbound motorcyclist killed himself on the Southern State Parkway about 3:30 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2009.  When I happened to pass the scene about 6:30, the police were taking measurements just east of the Corona Avenue bridge, exit 15.  The cyclist had four lanes to choose, but he crashed into the rear of an automobile.  The reporter for Newsday has given a fuller description here.

Jerusalem Ave., Uniondale, 8.16, 2009

Sad to report, a pedestrian crossing Jerusalem Avenue just before noon on Sunday, August 16, 2009, near Bedford Avenue, Uniondale, was struck and killed by a car.  The newsday.com story here gives the precise location and narrates how the police caught the hit-run driver.
