Austin Blvd, 7.22.2007

July 26, 2007

Sadly, a woman lost her life as a result of an alleged drunk driver about 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2007. Peter Vono was driving south on Austin Blvd (Barnum Island, part of the Town of Hempstead near the Village of Island Park), when he struck four cars that apparently were heading north. This happened somewhere near the intersection of Georgia Avenue with six-lane Austin Blvd. The driver who was struck (in one of the four cars) passed away after two days in the hospital. One of two Newsday stories is here.

NY 107, Old Brookville 7.14.2007

July 15, 2007

About two o’clock in the morning of July 14, 2007, on Cedar Swamp Road (NY 107), north of Fruitledge Lane, a motorcyclist lost his life when he hit a utility pole and a fire hydrant. Both Newsday and WCBS radio confuse the explanation by saying that he was headed northbound, but then state that he was going home to Hicksville. His origins were in Glen Cove, and apparently he was returning from there. The northbound/southbound issue remains muddled. He struck no other car. Link here.
