At this time of year, sun glare is a major problem for almost an hour before sundown. Because Long Island has few hills, westbound driving can be difficult. On Sunday, October 21, 2007, a sixty-five-year-old man riding a motorcycle in the center lane of the westbound Long Island Expressway near Exit 41, Jericho, fell off his bike into the traffic of the right lane. October 21, 2007A collision on East Merrick Road, Valley Stream, led to the death of a pedestrian on the north sidewalk. A driver exited the parking lot of a credit union located at 264 East Merrick Road, on the south side just east of the LIRR West Hempstead branch trestle. Implied in the report is that she was making a left turn when she collided with a westbound van on Merrick Road. The van, in turn, hit a tree, mounted the sidewalk, killed the pedestrian, and damaged two parked cars. The newsday.com narrative is here.

October 19, 2007Somehow, a westbound car got onto the eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway about 3:30 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2007. In a fiery head-on collision near Exit 13 (Linden Blvd), Elmont, the innocent eastbound driver, a man returning from work, was killed. October 13, 2007On Friday afternoon, October 12, 2007, a bus (Route N79, LI Bus or MSBA, an alternate name), traveling south on Newbridge Road, Hicksville, made a right turn onto Old Country Road. A cyclist collided with the bus and was killed. This seems to be the first fatal accident involving LI Bus in Nassau County in 2007. A brief newsday.com report is here.

October 8, 2007About 1:30 a.m. October 2, 2007, the driver of a sports car speeding east on Old Country Road lost his life when he crashed into a utility pole and a building near Halsey Avenue, Hicksville. October 8, 2007About 11 p.m., October 6, 2007, a driver was killed when she drove north on Second Avenue, Garden City Park, and made a left turn onto Jericho Turnpike just east of the signal at Denton Avenue. The car that struck her car was driven by a man charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Link to newsday.com here.
