According to the Wantagh Citizen dated 1.24.2008, a man driving on Merrick Road on January 11 lost control of his car and crashed into a parked car near Winthrop Avenue. He died at the hospital. The Wantagh Citizen is here.

January 25, 2008A passenger was killed about 5:52 a.m. on the Northern State Parkway, eastbound, east of Exit 34 (Brush Hollow Road). The driver went off the road and hit a tree. The newsday.com story is here. The driver lost both legs.
Atlantic Ave, Freeport, 1.20.2008
January 21, 2008About 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2008, a driver was killed on Atlantic Avenue, Freeport, as he apparently went through a red light at South Bayview Avenue. A southbound van with seven people aboard crashed into the car at the intersection. The newsday.com story is here.
Woodbury Road, 1.19.2008
January 20, 2008A high school junior, age 16, apparently drove his friend’s Jetta at too high a speed north on Woodbury Road, Plainview, about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008. Somewhere near Terrehans Lane, he lost control of the car, crossed the southbound lanes, and crashed into the wall of a support of NY 135, followed by a crash against a utility pole. The newsday.com story is here. The owner of the car was in the passenger seat, according to police, but there seems to be some dispute about this. The newspaper report says both were wearing seat belts. The boy who was not the owner of the car died.
North Main St, Freeport, 1.8.2008
January 9, 2008The first Nassau County loss of the New Year is Salomon Fernandez, a pedestrian struck and killed about 4:30 a.m. on North Main Street, north of Davis Street, Freeport. The driver that killed him kept going and fled. The newsday.com article is here.
