About 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, a woman was driving south on New Hyde Park Road. Near Maple Road (a long block south of Hillside Avenue), her car crossed over the northbound lanes and hit a tree. Sadly, she lost her life.

March 12, 2008A driver heading east on Merrick Road struck and killed a pedestrian at Village Avenue. The driver fled, his damaged car was found, and he turned himself in. The charges against him may be found in the article here.
Roslyn Road, 3.7.2008
March 8, 2008An accident involving three vehicles sadly ended a life in the early afternoon of March 7, 2008. The deceased was driving north on Roslyn Road two blocks north of I.U. Willets Road when he collided with a car entering from Club Drive on the right. The impact sent the first car into the southbound lane of Roslyn Road, where it struck a southbound school mini-van.

March 7, 2008Sad to relate, a woman lost her life about 3:30 a.m. eastbound on Sunrise Highway, Massapequa, where the highway curves northeast under the Long Island Rail Road. Going straight east is Old Sunrise Highway. Somehow, driving alone, she hit a hefty traffic signal stanchion with such force that the car was torn apart and she lost her life. March 2, 2008An hour after sunrise on Saturday, March 1, 2008, a pedestrian was killed as she crossed East Merrick Road near Rockaway Parkway in Valley Stream. The driver of the pick-up truck was heading south on Rockaway Parkway and made a left turn onto East Merrick Road when he hit the pedestrian. New York state law requires turning vehicles to yield to pedestrians at intersections. This intersection has crosswalks and a traffic signal. The driver was not charged. The newsday.com story is here.
