Sad to report, about 4:30 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2008, it seems that a man was running away from attackers near Centre Street and North Franklin Street, Hempstead. When he ran across North Franklin Street, a car killed him. The story in newsday.com is here.

Nassau Road, Roosevelt, 4.13.2008

Another motorcyclist has died, struck by a sedan driver making a left turn. Later, that driver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. The cyclist was riding north on Nassau Road about four o’clock Sunday morning, April 13, 2008. The sedan driver came south on Nassau Road. She killed the cyclist when she turned left towards Lakewood Avenue. Sad. This is the tenth motorcyclist killed in Nassau County in fourteen months.

Nassau Blvd, West Hempstead, 4.10.2008

Sad double death as a result of a high-speed accident on Nassau Blvd, West Hempstead, a block north of West Hempstead High School. Three 17-year-old students headed out of school for lunch, it seems, late in the morning of Thursday, April 10, 2008. They turned north on Nassau Blvd. Reports say the driver speeded up (in a 20 m.p.h. school zone), tried to pass a car, lost control and crashed into a wooden utility pole and dumpster on the other side of the street. The driver is alive the next day. His passengers are dead.

Mid-afternoon on April 1, 2008, a pedestrian was killed crossing Jericho Turnpike, near 12th Street, New Hyde Park. According to newsday.com He was standing in the center of the street on a yellow-painted island when he turned and walked into traffic. The article is here. It seems the deceased is the fourth pedestrian killed in 2008.
