Southern State Pkwy, 8.19.2007

May 20, 2008

Somehow a fatal crash late Sunday night, August 19, 2007, escaped my notice. However, the conviction of the driver on May 19, 2008, brought the accident to my attention. The accusation included a statement that the driver was high on marijuana. The jury convicted the driver of manslaugter, with Judge John Kase presiding. The person who died was in the back seat; three others were injured. The car was traveling eastbound on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 17, Malverne, skidded, and crashed into a tree. Dutch Broadway, Elmont, 5.1.2008

May 2, 2008

Sad to relate, a driver was killed westbound on Dutch Broadway about 5:15 on Thursday afternoon, May 1, 2008. On this straight street, he lost control of his car and slammed into a tree at the corner of 238th Street, according to newsday.com  However, on May 16 a judge held the driver of another car on a million dollars’ bail.  Although the two cars did not collide, this was a two-car accident!  It was a street race.  The other driver was charged with reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.  See the article here in newsday.com
