Port Washington Blvd, 6.22.08

On Sunday morning, June 22, 2008, a driver going north on Port Washington Blvd, near Revere Road, Port Washington, veered into opposing traffic.  In the ensuing crash, one of her passenger was sesverely injured.  Sadly, the passenger died at the hospital before noon.  The newsday.com article is here.

Almost six months later, Newsday of 1.10.2009 reports that the driver, Ansaf Ibrahim,  pleaded guilty to all counts.  The prosescutor and the family of the deceased are upset that the jail sentence may be only a year.  This article gives more details of the tragedy.

Northern Blvd, 6.21.2008

New York State Highway 25A runs across Nassau County from Queens to Suffolk.  In most places, it is named Northern Blvd.   During the final hour of Saturday, June 21, 2008, a woman was killed by an automobile as she walked north across the highway within the Village of Oyster Bay Cove.  The car that struck her was going east.  The newsday.com story here does not indicate whether this happened at an intersection.  There may be only two traffic signals on this relatively empty section of NY 25A.

Long Island Expy, Roslyn Hts, 6.19.08

A driver going westbound on the Long island Expressway between Exit 37 (Willis Avenue) and Exit 36 (Searingtown Road) about 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2008, pulled onto the right shoulder.  According to newsday.com here, she walked to the front of her car and then turned and walked too far into the roadway.  The driver of a tractor trailer swerved towards the middle lane to avoid her, but the rear of the truck, sad to say, struck and killed her.

Southern State Pkwy, exit 22, 6.18.08

About 2:45 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2008, two motorcyclists traveling west on the Southern State Parkway collided.  This happened somewhere west of the Meadowbrook Parkway interchange.  Both were ejected from their motorcycles.  Sadly, one cyclist died.  The other fled, but was captured.  The newsday.com article is here.

Baldwin Rd, Hempstead, 6.11,2008

Sadly, a man traveling south on Baldwin Road about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, was killed when his motorcycle struck a utility pole.  The newsday.com article is here.

Parking lot, Roslyn, 6.5.2008

In the Harborview Shopping Center parking lot in Roslyn, a man got into his car, sped across the lot, and crashed into a tree. He died. The newsday.com story is here.

Southern State Pkwy exit 14, 6.1.2008

About 5 a.m., an automobile westbound on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 14, Valley Stream, swerved and crashed into the concrete divider. A passenger was ejected from the rear seat. Sadly, his parents and friends lost him.  The newsday.com article is here.
