Shortly before 5 a.m. on July 22, 2008, an automobile, westbound on the Northern State Parkway went off the road, crashed into trees and burned, unfortunately killing the driver. According to newsday.com here, this happened just west of North Broadway, Jericho, Exit 35. The westbound lanes were closed for two hours.

July 22, 2008Before five o’clock on the morning of Tuesday, July 22, 2008, a man was apparently running across Newbridge Road at Duffy Avenue, Hicksville, where there is a traffic signal. July 21, 2008Police charged the driver of an automobile with second-degree murder among other charges, because he struck and killed a rival who was riding a bicycle. This happened on Bennett Avenue, Hempstead, in the first hour of Sunday morning, July 20, 2008. One of several newsday.com articles is here. It is not clear to me who actually charges the accused: Hempstead police, Nassau police, or the District Attorney’s office.

July 18, 2008The garbage trucks of the Town of Hempstead have footrests and handles on the back of the trucks so that the employees can ride there between stops for collecting garbage. Unfortunately, a worker fell off the truck on Grand Avenue, Baldwin, on the morning of July 17, 2008, near Van Buren Street. He hit his head and, sad to relate, died. The newsday.com story is here.

July 18, 2008An unlicensed driver, age 17, was driving east on Fulton Avenue (NY 24), Hempstead, when he attempted a left turn onto Robson Place about 8:37 p.m. His mother was in the passenger seat. Unfortunately, he cut off a motorcycle, which crashed into the car and killed his mother. What grief! Both people on the motorcycle were injured. The newsday.com article is here.

July 6, 2008Sad to relate, a husband and wife lost their lives when their Camry was broadsided by a Kia in Oceanside on Saturday afternoon, July 5, 2008. The Kia was traveling west on Foxhurst Road, and at the intersection with Oceanside Road it struck the northbound Camry. The newsday.com article is here.

July 5, 2008During the afternoon of the Fourth of July, 2008, a man was driving north on Merrick Avenue near Prospect Avenue, East Meadow. He rear-ending a Jeep in front of him, then veered into oncoming southbound traffic and struck another car. He then hit a traffic signal pole and a car in a driveway. Sadly, he died.
