North Jersualem Road, East Meadow, 8.29.2008

August 30, 2008

A 19-year-old man lost his life while driving alone in East Meadow, Friday, August 29, 2008, in the second hour of daylight.  The newsday.com story is here, combined with the narrative of an accident in Suffolk County.  The article states that the man was driving east on North Jerusalem Avenue near Bellmore Avenue when he hit a tree and died.  North Jersusalem Avenue has four lanes.  On Saturday, yellow paint on the pavement east of Bellmore Avenue seemed to mark how the car moved from the passing lane across the first lane directly to the tree, at the foot of which was a candle and other memorials. My sympathy to his family.

A little before ten o’clock on Tuesday evening, August 26, 2008, three men were in a car traveling south on Merrick Avenue.  Somehow they collided with a car that apparently exited eastbound from Luddington Road.  According to Channel 7- WABC, that car was making a left turn to northbound Merrick Avenue.  The southbound car hit the second car at the driver’s door (according to newsday.com photos), killing the driver.  The occupants of the southbound car were taken to the hospital.  No charges were filed, according to the newsday.com article here.  Luddington Road ends at Merrick Avenue.

Sad to relate, a school bus struck a bicyclist in Long Beach on Monday, July 28, 2008, presumably during daylight.  The bus was traveling west on East Olive Street, which is one-way westbound.  The cyclist was traveling north on Monroe Blvd. There may be three stop signs at this intersection.  The cyclist died a few days later from his injuries.  The newsday.com story is here.
