November 22, 2008What heartbreak! Near the Inwood Post Office about 5 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2008, a woman and her six-year-old son were using one of the crosswalks at the intersection of Doughty Blvd. and Morris Avenue. A car turned left off Doughty Blvd onto Morris Avenue, hitting both persons, killing the mother. Apparently, as Morris Avenue goes only west from Doughty Blvd., the vehicle was turning from north to west. The driver kept going and was not captured. The account is at newsday.com here.

November 20, 2008Tragically, a pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing North Broadway, Massapequa, about 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2008. This accident happened somewhere near Pittsburgh Avenue, which intersection has marked crosswalks protected by traffic signals and a push-button pedestrian signal. The newsday.com article is here.

November 18, 2008About 2:15 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2008, an eastbound car struck a 13-year-old bicyclist on Hempstead Turnpike, Bethpage, near Seitz Drive. A short block east, there is a push-button walk signal that lengthens to 35 seconds the time allowed to cross the turnpike. At Seitz Drive, there is no traffic signal.
South Woods Road, Syosset 10.31.2008
November 17, 2008A young pedestrian who was struck at an intersection in Syosset about 4 p.m. on October 31, 2008, died several days later, police announced on November 6. A car hit the 15-year-old at the intersection of Cold Spring Road and South Woods Road. The newsday.com article here gives no indication of where at the intersection the accident occured. South Woods Road, northbound terminates at a stop sign at Cold Spring Road, which runs north-east. On the west side, the intersection has a triangle, allowing eastbound Cold Spring Road traffic to turn south on Cold Spring Road. The intersection has neither sidewalks nor painted crosswalks.

November 14, 2008Tragically, a man driving a car near the intersection of Uniondale Avenue and Waverly Place, Uniondale, crashed into another car and killed the driver, a woman, 61. November 3, 2008Regrettably, a motorcyclist lost his life when he was riding eastbound on the Southern State Parkway near Peninsula Blvd. about 9 a.m. Sunday, November 2, 2008.
