About 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, the driver of a car northbound on the Bethpage Parkway, shortly before Hempstead Turnpike, swerved into the southbound lane and collided with a southbound car. The northbound driver lost her life. The newsday.com story is here. Note that this parkway is quite unusual, as it has only two lanes, with a painted line as a divider. A driver unfamiliar with this route might consider it dangerous, but this is the Bethpage Parkway’s first fatality since this blog was begun in early 2007. It was a clear, dry afternoon, and the offending driver was not facing the sun.
