August 18, 2009An eastbound motorcyclist killed himself on the Southern State Parkway about 3:30 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2009. When I happened to pass the scene about 6:30, the police were taking measurements just east of the Corona Avenue bridge, exit 15. The cyclist had four lanes to choose, but he crashed into the rear of an automobile. The reporter for Newsday has given a fuller description here.

August 8, 2009During the afternoon of Thursday, August 6, 2009, an eastbound vehicle on Fulton St., Farmingdale, stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross northbound. The following vehicle crashed into the first, sending the first into the pedestrian. The pedestrian lost his life. Date: August 6, 2009, in the afternoon. The newsday.com article gives no indication of the cross street, but Fulton Street is NY 109, a divided state highway.
