Tragically, a minor accident led to death on Sunrise Highway, Seaford, during the first hour of November 1, 2009. According to newsday.com here, a westbound driver rear-ended another car west of Washington Avenue. Both stopped. One driver crossed to the median of Sunrise Highway on foot. Crossing back to the cars, he was killed by another westbound car.

September 20, 2009About 1 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009, a driver lost his life at the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and Jerusalem Avenue, Uniondale. August 8, 2009During the afternoon of Thursday, August 6, 2009, an eastbound vehicle on Fulton St., Farmingdale, stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross northbound. The following vehicle crashed into the first, sending the first into the pedestrian. The pedestrian lost his life. Date: August 6, 2009, in the afternoon. The newsday.com article gives no indication of the cross street, but Fulton Street is NY 109, a divided state highway.

July 29, 2009The intersection of Newbridge Road and Hempstead Turnpike is wide and busy. Unfortunately, before 10 p.m. on July 28, 2009, a pedestrian lost her life when crossing Hempstead Turnpike. The news story does not include whether she was using the west crosswalk or the east crosswalk, nor which direction she was walking. A driver going east hit and killed her, according to the newsday.com article here.

Pedestrians have particular problems there with turning vehicles, but that appears not to have been the case with this death.
